….. The Community Interaction Program has changed!

Important changes have been made to the program :

  • All projects can be funded by up to 70% of their total value
  • A percentage of match funding must be provided in cash for projects over $35,000
  • Certain components are eligible for contributions of up to $200,000
  • A new component has been added : Study-Action
  • Two separate procedures are now in place for submitting project proposals :
    1. The first procedure is open to unsolicited proposals.
    2. The second procedure allows the program to solicit projects linked to St. Lawrence Plan priorities. These solicitations will be announced on the program's Web site (www.planstlaurent.qc.ca)

Solicited proposals / Priorities associated with the St. Lawrence for the summer of 2010

Key issues:

  1. combating habitat loss, or protecting or restoring St. Lawrence wetlands.

Projects must be conducted in the following areas:

  1. the Montréal archipelago (including Rivière des Prairies and Rivière des Milles-Iles),
  2. the Boucherville-Sorel fluvial sector,
  3. Lake Saint-Pierre,
  4. the upper and marine estuaries1 of the St. Lawrence,
  5. the Magdalen Islands.

1The upper and marine estuaries extend from Île d’Orléans to the imaginary line joining Pointe-des-Monts, on the north shore of the St. Lawrence, to Les Méchins, on the south shore. This area includes the Saguenay River up to the city of Saguenay.

The Atlas of Bank Restoration Sites of the St. Lawrence River is an excellent tool for identifying potential projects in the targeted areas
( http://www.qc.ec.gc.ca/faune/atlasderestaurationdesrivesdusaint-laurent/introduction_e.asp ).

Please note that you must complete a significant part of your project by March 31, 2011.

For more information, please contact one of our officers, at 418-648-3444.

You have until August 27, 2010 to send us your notice of intent.

Please consult the "Eligibility and process" section to find out whether your project is eligible. We do recommend, however, that you consult a project officer, who will be able to help you determine more accurately whether your project and the planned project activities are eligible.
