Community Interaction Program

Financial and technical assistance program promoting community projects related to the St. Lawrence ecosystem

Project Presentation Guide for Organizations

This document is for non-profit non-governmental organizations
that wish to receive a financial contribution under the
Community Interaction Program

  • Two separate procedures are now in place for submitting project proposals :
    1. The first procedure is open to unsolicited proposals.
    2. The second procedure allows the program to solicit projects linked to St. Lawrence Plan priorities. These solicitations will be announced on the program's Web site (www.planstlaurent.qc.ca)

Solicited proposals / Priorities associated with the St. Lawrence for the winter of 2011

Prioritary Orientations :

  1. Restore, develop and protect areas of ecological interest;
  2. Ongoing changes to the coastal zone and their impacts (sensitive habitats).
  3. Support the sustainable harvesting of aquatic resources;
  4. Improve public access to St-Lawrence;
  5. Reduce agricultural sources of nonpoint source pollution;
  6. Maintain and promote sustainable navigation.

Projects may be carried out over the entire St. Lawrence. However, a heavier weight may be given to projects that will have an impact on the following sectors:

  1. Montréal (area equivalent to the metropolitan community of Montréal);
  2. Lake Saint-Pierre (area included between the islands of Sorel and the mouth of Lake Saint-Pierre dowstream);
  3. Québec City (area equivalent to the metropolitan community of Québec City and extending to Berthier-sur-mer on the south shore);
  4. Maritime estuary (area extending on the north shore from Baie Sainte-Catherine to Baie Trinité inclusively and, on the south shore, from Cacouna to Cap-Chat);
  5. Magdalen Islands.

The Atlas of Bank Restoration Sites of the St. Lawrence River is an excellent tool for identifying potential projects in the targeted areas
( http://www.qc.ec.gc.ca/faune/atlasderestaurationdesrivesdusaint-laurent/introduction_e.asp ).

Please note that you must complete a significant part of your project by March 31, 2012.

For more information, please contact one of our officers, at 418-648-3444 or 1-800-463-4311.

You have until March 11, 2011 to send us your notice of intent.

Please consult the "Eligibility and process" section to find out whether your project is eligible. We do recommend, however, that you consult a project officer, who will be able to help you determine more accurately whether your project and the planned project activities are eligible.
