Moving Giant, The Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Ecosystem Exhibition

1 June to 31 October 2008 Where: The Biosphère Open to everyone Description: An exhibition dedicated to this vast ecosystem, its uses and its riches. Experienced via a circuit consisting of interactive games, mock-ups, videos, maritime scenes and even a climbing wall! |

Discovering Eelgrass!: Educational activities regarding the interpretation of the biodiversity of an eelgrass bed on the shore of an inland waterway |
2, 4 and 5 June 2008 Where: Recreotouristic Site Baie du sud, lagune du Havre aux Maisons, Îles-de-la-Madeleine. Registration required Person in charge: Description: This educational activity consists of helping youth to discover the universe ofmarine plants that are eelgrass. Using environmentally friendly fishing vessels, specimens are collected, observed, identified and numbered, and are then returned to the water, alive and in the same location. The biodiversity observed increases interest and the desire to conserve its integrity. This acticity has been integrated into the school program as part of the Science and Technology course offered in the first year of high school and the general public is also invited to participate. |

The themes are: uses of the water, the ZIP committee’s achievements, water heritage landscape and marine plants and wildlife. Family Day to Clean-Up the Shores of Île La Grande Basque (Sept-Îles archipelago) Followed by a Guided Tour of the Islands in the Archipelago and Dinner Theatre |
20 September 2008 (rain day: 21 September), 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Where: Leave the Sept-Îles Marina at 9:00 a.m.; dinner theatre at 5:00 p.m. in the Vieux-Quai park, Arnaud Avenue, Sept-Îles Registration required for the cleanup and guided tour; dinner theatre open to everyone Person in charge: Description: As part of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, the ZIP committee is organizing a family day to clean up shorelines on Île La Grande Basque. Limited place on the boat. Cleanup: first portion lasts 2.5 hours, the second 1.5 hours. Dinner is provided for volunteers. Guided tour of the islands in the archipelago for volunteers: 2:30 p.m. Hot dog supper at the old pier: 5:00 p.m. and singer: 6:30 p.m. |
