Restoration and development projects
The restoration of habitats and facilities is the ultimate objective of several projects. In many cases, we have been waiting for these projects for a very long time.
- Design and implementation of pilot projects for the development and restoration of wetlands (phase 1). – In particular, erosion control, batture creation and replanting projects.
- Restoration of numerous aquatic habitats (disturbed shores and marshes) in brackish and marine areas (phase 2). – Several of these developments served as showcase projects.
- Decontamination of sector 103 of the Port of Montreal (phases 3 and 4) –$10-million project involving removing and treating 52 000 m3 of contaminated sediments, financially backed by three industries and the Montreal Port Authority and steered over the long-term by the Jacques-Cartier ZIP committee.
- Development of a multipurpose marina at Havre-Saint-Pierre (phase 2). – Project to improve the effectiveness of environmental emergencies programs, natural resources monitoring, law enforcement and public safety.
- Updating new shore stabilization technologies (phase 2). – Gabions, branch layering, faggots, fascine and sedimentation structures.
- Implementation of several pilot projects (phase 2). – Marsh restoration, creating marsh in agricultural areas, enhancing previously developed riparian bogs, restoration of an abandoned sand pit.
- Several dozen projects carried out by zone d’intervention prioritaire (ZIP) committees and various environmental organisations within the Community Interaction Programs of the SLP (phases 2, 3, 4). – Restoration of banks, spawning grounds, wetlands, etc.
