PERISCOPE : Film Programming

Series 1 – The St. Lawrence, a River Equal to the Nile and Amazon

Le Saint-Laurent, un fleuve à l’égal du Nil et de l’Amazone.
Director André Larochelle and his team travelled by catamaran along the St. Lawrence River over a period of months, from the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the Great Lakes. Biologists, geologists, archaeologists, physicians, geographers, divers and historians share the results of long years of research, studies and reflection.

Séries 2 – Vu du large (Seen from the Open Sea)

Vu du large, from Productions Vic Pelletier, is a documentary collection that deals with different themes around the St. Lawrence River, and the local inhabitants. The health of this rich stretch of water, marine biotechnologies, climate change and new halieutic resources are just some of the subjects discussed using a unique and contemporary approach.

7:00 p.m. – The Youngest River on the Planet

The St. Lawrence-Great Lakes ecosystem was born barely 3,000 years ago, even though its bed in a tectonic plate dates back 50 million years. This ecosystem alone makes up 20% of all the Earth’s fresh water. Archaeologists have shown us the life of its initial users, the Aboriginals, the Bretons who came to fish for cod and the approximately 900 Basques who went whale hunting there in the 16th century.
