River Action: A magazine for young people

River Action

“Cool!” young people will exclaim as they leaf through River Action on the St. Lawrence, a new magazine-format publication soon to be released by Environment Canada’s Biosphère. Containing some 50 amply illustrated pages, this dynamic and attractive publication is intended to introduce high school students to the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence ecosystem and to raise their awareness of sustainable development issues.

Filled with puzzles, riddles, secret codes and word search games, the magazine has four main sections including an overview of the ecosystem and one on each of the three reaches of the St. Lawrence: river corridor, estuary and gulf. A fifth section describes the health of the St. Lawrence ecosystem by exploring subjects such as biodiversity and wetlands.

The last sections showcase the actions undertaken by youth and the organizations that support them, and present their outlook on the St. Lawrence River. Resources for those who would like to get involved are also included.
