Evaluation of a partnership model and approach for the protection and enhancement of the St. Lawrence
Increasing the involvement of young people in the protection and enhancement of the
St. Lawrence has been the objective since December 2005 of a working group of the Community Involvement and Awareness Coordination Committee (CIACC) of the St. Lawrence Plan.
In connection with that initiative, CEGEP students were designated as the primary actors. The CIACC focussed on a partnership model that also involved actors in the community, such as representatives of municipal government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the environmental field.
Thus it was that, as early as 2006, a first pilot project was born in La Pocatière. Following two years of sustained efforts on the part of a regional committee of some ten people, the La Pocatière marine rest area was established. The theme chosen for this riverside interpretation node was discovery of the relationships between humans and the St. Lawrence.
Following a first year of operations, a process for evaluation of this innovative partnership model was implemented with the La Pocatière project actors. The publication we present to you here gives an overview of the various components of the initiative and offers some food for thought and avenues for improvement in support of similar new projects.
This document will also support a practical guide that will be published by the Quebec association for environment-related promotion and education, the Association québécoise pour la promotion et l'éducation relative à l'environnement (AQPERE).
