The St. Lawrence River – yours to discover

With its habitats, flora and fauna, marine world, fisheries resources, islands, and landscapes, the St. Lawrence ecosystem is a veritable treasure trove. In this section of the Web site, we invite you to discover the St. Lawrence through its physical and biological features.

Here you will find information that will take you beyond the boundaries of the St. Lawrence, allowing you to discover the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence Basin or to compare the St. Lawrence to other great rivers. Along the way, you will discover smaller ecosystems, such as those in the Lake Saint-Pierre or Lake Saint-Louis areas.

In addition to a map showing all of the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence ecosystems, the site provides a snapshot of the changes the river has undergone due to industrialization and work undertaken to make the seaway navigable.

Finally, a series of "Did you know...” information capsules will draw your attention to a number of features that will deepen your understanding – and appreciation – of the St. Lawrence.
