The St. Lawrence is an immense ecosystem which, over the years, has undergone tremendous environmental pressures of all kinds as a result of human activity.
Are you concerned by its condition? This section is designed to answer some of the questions you may have. The information in this section deals mainly with the state of the area, observations that have been made over the years thanks to such initiatives as the State of the St. Lawrence Monitoring Program, as well as current and ongoing research designed to determine the state of the environment.
The information draws on available data and knowledge in an effort to expand your understanding of the evolution and health of the St. Lawrence ecosystem, the state of the rivers that flow into the St. Lawrence, as well as the fourteen Areas of Prime Concern (ZIP) along the St. Lawrence.
