A swim in the St. Lawrence: will you dare?

Photo: Sylvie Lemire

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to swim in the St. Lawrence. The banks of the river offer beautiful swimming sites accessible to the public.

With the improvement of water quality, more and more swimmers and vacationers  appreciate to cool off in the St. Lawrence. One question remains: is swimming safe? To answer this question, our scientists from the St. Lawrence Action Plan selected 16 potential freshwater swimming sites between Montreal and Île d'Orléans. They evaluated the water quality of these sites using the following indicators: seasonal bacteriological quality, percentage of swimmable days, percentage of sites with good potential and percentage of dry weather.

Read the results of the water quality analysis as well as the sectors identified as being suitable for swimming between Montreal and Île d'Orléans. You may recognize a site near you!
