The summary indicator demonstrates that the temperature of the three levels of the St-Lawrence (surface, intermediate, deep) as well as the hypoxia and acidity conditions of the estuary remain at the intermediate level for the 2013-2017 period. However, a deteriorating trend of the general state was recorded from 2008 to 2012 and was mostly due to the high temperature of the deep waters which started to climb in 1915. The global tendency is also due to the decline of dissolved oxygen and the level of acidity in the St-Lawrence estuary, who both reached new records.
L’indicateur sommaire reflétant la température des trois couches du golfe du Saint-Laurent (surface, intermédiaire et profonde) ainsi que les conditions hypoxiques et acides de l’estuaire, est demeuré intermédiaire durant 2013-2017. Une tendance à la détérioration de l’état global a tout de même été enregistrée depuis 2008-2012, principalement à cause des températures élevées des eaux profondes qui ont atteint des records sur des séries temporelles qui débutent en 1915. La tendance globale est due aussi à une détérioration de l’oxygène dissous et de l’acidité des eaux profondes de l’estuaire du Saint-Laurent qui ont toutes deux atteint des niveaux record.
